Today Microsoft’s canceled Surface Mini images and specifications appeared online. The Surface Mini is very similar to the Surface Pro 3, just smaller, and it also includes a built-in kickstand. The Mini is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 1GB RAM and Adreno 330 graphics, 1440×1080 display, and Windows 8 RT. It has 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for expansion, a headphone jack, and a microUSB port for charging that supports USB On-The-Go. In addition, the Mini includes support for a Surface Pen. There is also a cover, which is a rubber-like material was around the outside of the tablet and added a kickstand and the connection point for the cover. Microsoft today announced that it will shut down Windows App Studio service on December 1, 2017. The company will push Windows Template Studio in place of Windows App Studio. Windows App Studio has been a free, online app creation tool that allowed enthusiasts and developers to quickly build complete Windows Universal Apps. Applications using Windows App Studio then could also be downloaded, extended and compiled with Visual Studio and submitted to the Windows Dev Center. Today Qualcomm announced it new mid-range Snapdragon 450 chipset. The new Qualcomm’s mid-range smartphone platform now moved to a 14nm process. The new 450 still utilizes Cortex A53 cores, but on a smaller 14nm process. The max clock speed now goes up to 1.8GHz on the 450 versus a max of 1.4GHz on the 435. A new Hexagon 546 DSP will be up to five times as efficient as the DSP in previous 400-series chips. The new chipset also adds support for 60FPS video capture and playback, dual cameras, USB 3.0, and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Sony Mobile is now rolling out Android 7.1.1 Nougat update 432.4.A.0.160 for Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, Z5 Premium, Z4 Tablet, and Z3 Plus smartphones. The latest update also includes Android OS June security patch. Android 7.1.1 brings features including app shortcuts (with a compatible launcher – the Xperia Home launcher does not support app shortcuts at present). There are also other improvements including longer battery life, a self-timer button for the front camera, a new Xperia launcher with integrated Google Now pane, multi-window support, and all of Nougat’s new features. A ransomware Petya is making the rounds in Europe. It has already infected multiple organization in Europe. According to some security experts, the new ransomware attack is even larger attack than last month’s devastating WannaCry. Some of the larger organizations currently known as being affected are Danish shipping giant Maersk and Russia’s largest oil producer, Rosneft. Petya ransomware works by encrypting system files after rebooting the computer. So if your system is infected with Petya ransomware and it tries to restart, just do not power it back on. If you do not power on, files are fine.   Use a LiveCD or external machine to recover files. You should always be suspicious of unwanted files and documents sent over an email and should never click on links inside them unless verifying the source.
